Introduction to Encinitas Report!

I am what some consider a unicorn around Encinitas these days. I grew up just across Olivenhain Road from Encinitas, attended EUSD and San Dieguito schools, went away to college, lived away for ten years to build a career, and made a triumphant return to my home, here in Encinitas - even managed to buy a house and start raising a family. The Encinitas blogosphere has been recently growing and fantastically covering local politics, but with that rise, there has also been stagnation in covering issues that affect the average Encinitan: new store openings, traffic issues, school triumphs/problems. In fact, if you read the other blogs, you'd have a hard time realizing that most of New Encinitas, a huge local population center, even exists. It's all 101 corridor talk, which is great, because it is an important part of the Encinitas lifestyle, but there is so much more to this town than Leucadia and Old Encinitas. ENCreport will attempt to cover the city as a whole and present stories of interest to all residents.

  1. Good luck on your venture.

The illusion that we are one happy city of five different communities is a bit of a myth. Those who live east of I-5, generally look at Encintas City Hall something line Sacramento, it's there, laws are made, but they don't feel much real connection.

I live in the Village Park area and very few people even heard of the Pacific View purchase during my dog walks. It's difficult to get them involved, and when I mention that it's their tax money that is supporting the PV purchase that has no parking provisions and no public transportation they have a mild interest, sort of like how the state is going to spend some 50 billion for a bullet train to nowhere.

The PV purchase and the Peak Democracy travesty really raised my blood pressure, and I had to pull back. There is an endless list of travesties in all branches of our democratic government, and people have to filter out almost all of them.

It's a harsh reality, that those in New Encinitas will be paying for that Pacific View purchase and get nothing out it, while the dedicated art center lot will continue to grow weeds, and not even generate tax revenue for the the city.
